درباره‌‌ی Im Going to Read Level 2

Kindergarten-Grade 3–Leveled series titles for beginning readers. In Lions, new vocabulary appears in a bar across the top of each page. Adults familiar with the more traditional listing of sight words in the back of the book may find this new approach distracting; children, however, are likely to benefit from this arrangement. Through the story, readers learn about the New York Public Library as they tag along with Nate and his friend Kate to meet the lions that guard the building's entrance. Beginning readers should be able to decode most of the vocabulary. Childlike art provides some visual clues, and the one line of text per page stands out clearly against a crisp white background. In Bed, a young boy is determined to stay up all night. Readers will identify with and appreciate Jake's stubborn refusal, however unrealistic it may be. Text is placed in different locations on different pages, signaling the need for more supplicated skills. The cartoon illustrations provide a touch of drama but no real scary moments as they depict the boy's attempt to stay awake in a darkened living room. Poems will have definite appeal for newly independent readers. Children will find humor in this collection of rhymes that incorporates vocabulary guaranteed to get them giggling. Haley's artwork adds to the book's overall funny flavor. Libraries needing easy-to-read books will want to consider these titles.–Maura Bresnahan, High Plain Elementary School, Andover, MA Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.
